The Captain's meeting and Party were held at Tucson Racquet Club on April 14th. Good information was provided to Captains attending, along with a buffet and drinks provided by SAZ USTA.

Tucson Teams Advance to Nationals!

The SAZ teams had an remarkable showing at the 2011 USTA Southwest Adult Sectionals Championships. Out of the eight Tucson teams, five will be advancing to the Nationals Championships. The other three teams took 2nd place by narrow margins. Congratulations to the 3.5 and 4.0 women and the 3.5, 4.5 and 5.0 Men - Good Luck at Nationals!!

SENIOR LEAGUE SECTION CHAMPIONSHIPS

nyon 3.5 Senior Team (Jane Oakland Captain) finished with a perfect 5-0 record, two match wins ahead of second place Central Arizona at 2-2.
Green Valley 4.0 Senior Team (Carl Johnson Captain) finished second following Central Arizona's team out of Chandler (Jay Hearshman Captain).
Mixed Doubles Heritage Highlands, Dove Mountain, Seniors take second place among 1,150 tennis teams.
The 15-person team from Heritage Highlands, Dove Mountain, finished second in the USTA National 7.0 Senior (over 50 years old) Mixed Doubles Championships April 8-10 in Surprise.
That's No. 2 among approximately 1,150 teams with 13,500 players.
The tournament consisted of 15 teams from around the U.S. and the Caribbean that had qualified by winning their local leagues, then in many cases won state titles, then captured one of 15 Sectional championships.
The Highlanders dominated the Southern Arizona league with a 9-1 record last spring, then qualified for Nationals last September by winning the Southwest Section consisting of teams from Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.
